Disposal of huge piles of trash in Kanchaburi begins | Bangkok Post: news

A heavy machine is sent to sort garbage at Khao Thong dump site, where over one million tonnes of garbage had been illegal dumped over 30 years, in Kanchaburi province. The Khao Thong site, covering 100 rai of land, had formerly been a military training field before it was illegally encroached upon and turned into a dump site. Garbage and toxic waste has piled up in the area for 31 years, leaving a staggering one million tonnes of trash. The dump site was in danger of catching fire, posing a potentional environmental and health catastrophe for local residents. Under the plan, garbage at the dump site will be sorted and recycled, while hazardous waste will be carefully disposed of.
